Cookie Policy

This policy explains what this website stores on your device, why, and how you control it. It covers voyager.art. The Voyager Art application at app.voyager.art is a separate, signed-in service, and what it stores is described at the end.

A cookie is a small file of letters and numbers stored on your browser or the hard drive of your computer. Browser local storage does the same job in a different place. We treat both the same way in this policy, and neither is used to identify you personally.

This website sets nothing at all until you answer the banner that appears on your first visit. Rejecting is offered as plainly as accepting, and every part of the site works either way.

We use the following categories:

· Strictly necessary. Two entries in your browser local storage, and only after you act. One records your answer to the analytics banner, so you are not asked again on every page. The other is written only if you add ?analytics_optout=1 to the address of a page on this site: it keeps that browser out of both of the measurements below for good, and ?analytics_optout=0 removes it again. That switch is a web address rather than a button because it exists for our own machines, so that our visits stay out of our reports; the banner is the control meant for you. Neither entry is sent to us or to anyone else, and without them we could not honour the choice you made.

· Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used, and only if you accept it. Accepting sets two cookies, "_ga" and a second cookie beginning "_ga_", both of which expire two years after your last visit. They give us a count of visitors and let us tell a returning visit from a new one. They do not tell us who you are. If you reject, or simply ignore the banner, nothing is loaded from Google at all: neither cookie is ever set and no analytics data leaves your browser. If you accept after the page has already loaded, what you did on it up to that moment is sent then, from the page itself, having been held nowhere else.

· Counting visits, storing nothing. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics. It sets no cookie and writes nothing to your device, so there is nothing here for you to accept or refuse and nothing that could follow you to another website. It tells us how many people visited, which pages they opened, which website sent them, and roughly which country and what kind of device they were on. We use it because it still counts the visitors who decline the analytics above, who would otherwise be invisible to us.

· Advertising and targeting. We do not use them. This website sets no advertising cookies, runs no advertising network, builds no profile of you and shares nothing with third parties for advertising.

What we do with the analytics data

We measure how the site is used, not who uses it: pages viewed, how far down a page you scroll, which chapters of the hero story you reach, whether you play the walkthrough film, which project examples you open, and which links you follow away from the site. Google processes that on our behalf as our analytics provider, and Cloudflare processes the visit count. Our privacy policy explains the legal basis and your rights.

Changing your mind

You can withdraw or give consent at any time by clearing this site's cookies and local storage in your browser settings, which makes the banner appear again on your next visit. You can also set your browser to refuse all or some cookies, or to alert you when a site sets one. Refusing cookies on this site costs you nothing: no page, image or feature depends on one.

The Voyager Art application

app.voyager.art is the signed-in application, not this website, and it sets no cookie at all. It keeps you signed in with session storage, which your browser holds for that tab, discards when you close it, and never sends to anyone. That is strictly necessary: without it you could not stay logged in, so no banner applies to it.

The application counts its own page views with the same cookieless Cloudflare beacon this website uses, and it records your sessions so that faults you report can be diagnosed. Neither stores anything on your device. Both are described in our privacy policy, which is also where you will find how long a recording is kept and what it shows.
